Project 02 — Campaign Art
Night Shift
One lit window in a sleeping block — key art for late trains and the people who ride them.
Overview
Northline Rail wanted late-night services to feel watched-over rather than empty. The answer was a single image used across posters, platform screens and tickets.
Two blocks face each other across a dark street. Every window is asleep except one, glowing peach against the blue — a nurse home late, a baker up early, someone exactly like the passenger looking at the poster. The utility pole and its sagging wires keep the scene honest: this is a working street, not a postcard.
Approach
The palette was locked first: four blues and one warm exception. Thirty windows were drawn, then twenty-nine were switched off. Restraint is the whole trick — the eye finds the lit room in under a second, at poster distance or on a phone.
The pale block on the right was added late in the process to stop the composition going too dark. Its oversized windows act as a reflector, bouncing implied light back into the street and giving the layout its rhythm.
