Project 06 — Editorial Feature
After Hours
A violet street at 1am — the closing image of an issue about cities that never quite sleep.
Overview
The arts issue of Copper Journal closed with an essay on night workers, and needed a final image that felt like the end of a long shift rather than the start of a party.
After Hours is the darkest piece in the series: lavender air, black silhouettes, a pink wall holding the last of the day's warmth. Pink and blue discs float through the frame like out-of-focus streetlights, and one small figure crosses the road that nobody else is on.
Approach
Night scenes usually go navy or black; violet was chosen to keep the image warm and strange instead of cold. The dark building on the right takes up a full third of the frame — a slab of quiet that makes the pink wall beside it feel louder.
The floating discs were the last addition, painted in after the editor said the first version was “too awake”. They soften everything they touch, the way tired eyes soften a street.
