Project 03 — Packaging Art

Amber Street

Teal shutters, a honey canopy and October light — seasonal packaging for a neighbourhood roaster.

Overview

Kiln Coffee releases one autumn bag a year, always drawn from the street their roastery sits on. This edition follows the corner shop opposite, caught mid-October.

The leaning tree does most of the work: black trunk, honey canopy, two red berries like full stops. Below it, the shop keeps its teal shutters half-closed against the low sun, and cream pavement piles up like fallen leaves. The same drawing wraps bag, cup and shop window.

Approach

Packaging has to survive the shelf at three metres and reward a look at thirty centimetres. The big reads — teal block, honey band, black roof — land from across the shop; the shutter slats, berries and the single coral dot repay the closer look.

The tree was redrawn eleven times. The final version leans ten degrees further than is sensible, which is exactly what the real one does outside the roastery door.
